چکیده

fermentation of 49 carbohydrates and oxidation and assimilation of 96 substrates were examined for ten beauveria bassiana isolates. principal component analysis indicated that there are significant differences among isolates for utilization of some substrates. esculine and d- glucose were positively fermented by all isolates. isolates were grouped into four clusters on the basis of hierarchial analysis of 96-hr reaction data. using canonical variate analysis, it was determined that n-acetyl glucosamine fermentation and î²-cyclodextrin oxidation were strongly and positively correlated with pathogenicity of isolates against diamondback moth, plutella xylostella and colorado potato beetle, leptinotarsa decemlineata. in contrast, sebacic acid assimilation was negatively correlated to virulence against these insects.

BIOLOGICAL CONTROLÐMICROBIALS Beauveria bassiana Horizontal Infection Between Cadavers and Adults of the Colorado Potato Beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say)

The behavior of adult Colorado potato beetles (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) in the presence of Beauveria bassiana sporulating on cadavers was studied to determine the likelihood of disease infection as beetles emerge from the soil and colonize host plants. In 2001, the movement of single adultColoradopotatobeetleswasmonitored in arenas containing infective cadavers in differing spatial patterns b...

Comparative virulence of Beauveria bassiana isolates against lepidopteran pests of vegetable crops.

Forty-three isolates of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana were screened for virulence against second-instar larvae of diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) (DBM), European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) (ECB), corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea) (CEW), and fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) (FAW); 30 of these isolates were tested against beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua) (BAW). Isolation and Evaluation of Beauveria bassiana for Control of Coptotermes formosanus and Reticulitermes flavipes (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)

Six Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin isolates were obtained from Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar) and Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki in the U.S. and China. These isolates, plus the B. bassiana isolate 26037 from American Type Culture Collection that was isolated from Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say)) were compared against C. formosanus and R. flavipes in the laborat...
